Data drop: All the key stats ahead of Premier League Gameweek 13

The Premier League returns after the international break — so we’ve delved into Twenty3’s Toolbox to bring you all the key facts about this weekend’s fixtures…

Manchester City vs Liverpool (Saturday, 12.30pm)

  • No side has scored more goals than Manchester City in the Premier League so far this season (32).
  • Liverpool rank first in the Premier League for total shots (203).
  • Unsurprisingly, Pep Guardiola’s team are on top when it comes to possession, completing a division-high 6,694 passes with an accuracy of 90.23%.
  • Both teams are outperforming their xG of 24.52 and 25.9 respectively.
  • Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah are the two most prolific players in the Premier League this term, with 23 goals scored between them.

Burnley vs West Ham (Saturday, 3pm)

  • Burnley are the lowest scorers in the Premier League, with just nine goals from 12 matches.
  • West Ham continue to be a major threat from set pieces, ranking joint-second for shots from headers (31).
  • The Hammers have made more successful defensive actions than Burnley (1,248 to 1,170).
  • Burnley winger Luca Koleosho ranks sixth in the league for attempted dribbles (74) and progressive runs (46).

Luton vs Crystal Palace (Saturday, 3pm)

  • Luton are among the most direct teams in the Premier League, ranking first for attempted crosses (222) and attempted aerial duels (539).
  • Crystal Palace have kept the joint-most clean sheets (five), along with Arsenal and Newcastle, while Luton are yet to go a game without conceding a goal.
  • Both teams are underperforming their xG, with Luton netting 10 times from an xG of 12.41 and Palace scoring 12 from an xG of 15.68.
  • No player in the Premier League has completed more ball recoveries in the opposition half than Luton midfielder Marvelous Nakamba (58).

Newcastle vs Chelsea (Saturday, 3pm)

  • Newcastle have been more productive in attack than Chelsea this term (27 goals to 21), although the Blues have scored eight in their last two matches.
  • Chelsea rank first in the division for completed through passes (43).
  • Despite the Magpies apparent superiority in attack, Chelsea have a higher xG so far this season (24.86 to 21.13).
  • Raheem Sterling has attempted more dribbles than any other player in the Premier League (96).

Nottingham Forest vs Brighton (Saturday, 3pm)

  • Nottingham Forest have made the most successful defensive actions (1,351) in the Premier League this season.
  • Forest and Brighton’s distinctly different styles of play are highlighted by their average possession (39.65% vs 58.95%).
  • Brighton rank first in the division for completed forward passes (1,710).
  • The Seagulls have amassed a much greater xG than Forest after 12 matches (21.68 vs 14.15).

Sheffield United vs Bournemouth (Saturday, 3pm)

  • Sheffield United rank bottom of the Premier League for shots attempted (93), dribbles completed (80) and attacking duels won (191).
  • The Blades also have the lowest xG in the division (8.85), compared to Bournemouth’s total of 15.61.
  • Bournemouth have won more defensive duels than Sheffield United (603 vs 520) and have completed more passes (3,452 vs 3,061).
  • No goalkeeper in the Premier League has made more saves than Sheffield United’s Wes Foderingham (57).

Brentford vs Arsenal (Saturday, 5.30pm)

  • Brentford lead the way in the Premier League this season for aerial duels won (256) and long passes completed (344).
  • That direct style is in contrast with Arsenal, who average the second-highest possession in the division (59.07%).
  • The Gunners’ aggressive, front-footed approach is reflected in their high number of completed ball recoveries in the opposition half (367).
  • Arsenal boast the lowest xG conceded in the Premier League (11.57).
  • Bukayo Saka ranks first in the Premier League for expected assists (4.35).

Tottenham vs Aston Villa (Sunday, 2pm)

  • Aston Villa are second only to Manchester City for goals scored (29), although just six of them have come away from home.
  • Tottenham rank first in the Premier League for attempted dribbles (399) and attacking duels won (463).
  • Both sides have impressed in attack this season but Villa have a better xG (24.86 vs 18.95).
  • Only Raheem Sterling (78) has had more touches in the opposition box than Tottenham’s Dejan Kulusevski (77).
  • Villa full-back Lucas Digne has completed by far the most crosses in the Premier League this term (34).

Everton vs Manchester United (Sunday, 4.30pm)

  • Everton have scored more goals than Manchester United (14 to 13) and have a superior xG (18.42 vs 17.09).
  • The Toffees also have a better xG conceded than Sunday’s opponents (16.33 vs 17.39), despite a 17-point gap between the teams after Everton’s 10-point deduction.
  • United rank fourth in the Premier League for total shots (173), while Everton have registered 160.
  • Bruno Fernandes is joint-second with Mohamed Salah for the most shots attempted (37).

Fulham vs Wolves (Monday, 8pm)

  • Fulham have one of the most impotent attacks in the Premier League this season, scoring just 10 goals from an xG of 12.79.
  • Wolves have been far more effective in the final third, winning 411 attacking duels to Fulham’s 286.
  • Gary O’Neil’s side are also more direct in attack, completing 203 dribbles to Fulham’s 201.
  • Wolves’ Pedro Neto leads the way for Premier League assists this season, with seven to his name already.
