Data drop: Everything you need to know about Premier League Gameweek 29

The Premier League is back in action after the international break – so we have dug into the Twenty3 Toolbox to bring you all the key facts about this weekend’s fixtures…

Manchester City vs Liverpool (Saturday, 12.30pm)

  • No Premier League side has scored as many goals (67) as Manchester City so far this season.
  • Liverpool have recovered the ball with more aggression than their upcoming opponents. They have made more ball recoveries than Manchester City (2,455 to 2,122) and that also applies in the opposition half (907 to 887).  
  • Manchester City like to keep the ball rolling, as they have completed more passes (15,248) and crosses (183) than anybody else in the Premier League. Liverpool, on the other hand, prefer a more direct style, completing the most long balls in the division (805).
  • Manchester City have outperformed their xG – scoring 67 goals from 53.99. Liverpool have also slightly outperformed it – scoring 47 from 44.02.
  • Manchester City’s Erling Haaland has scored more Premier League goals (28) than Liverpool’s three top scorers – Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Darwin Núñez – combined (27).

Bournemouth v Fulham (Saturday, 3pm)

  • Fulham boast a great deal more attacking firepower than Bournemouth. They have scored more goals (38 to 25) than their upcoming opponents. 
  • Bournemouth have made more successful defensive actions (2,976 to 2,742) and won more aerial duels (480 to 417) than Fulham. 
  • Fulham use the ball with a great deal more swagger than Bournemouth. They have completed more passes (8,771 to 6,985), long balls (631 to 593) and crosses (155 to 106).
  • Fulham’s Portuguese pivot João Palhinha has won the third-most defensive duels (136). The midfielder has also made 119 interceptions and won 56 aerial duels.

Nottingham Forest v Wolves (Saturday, 3pm)

  • Nottingham Forest and Wolves have scored the same number of goals in the Premier League this season (22), though the latter have fired off more shots (295 to 243). 
  • Wolves play with a great deal more confidence in the final third than Nottingham Forest. They have made more progressive runs (443 to 296) and completed more dribbles (438 to 298).
  • Wolves are more aggressive in winning the ball back than Nottingham Forest. They have made more ball recoveries (2,325 to 2,280) and more in the opposition half (702 to 684).
  • Wolves see more of the ball than Nottingham Forest – they have completed more passes (10,143 to 7,015), through passes (72 to 53), and long balls (743 to 650). 
  • Nottingham Forest have two talented attacking talents in Brennan Johnson and Morgan Gibbs-White – having signed the latter from Wolves. No player from either side has outscored the former (seven) while nobody has contributed more assists than the latter (five).

Crystal Palace v Leicester City (Saturday, 3pm)

  • Leicester City are sharper in the final third than Crystal Palace, scoring more goals (38 to 22) and firing off more shots (275 to 258). 
  • Crystal Palace and Leicester City are well-matched in the defensive side of the game. Palace have made more successful defensive actions (2,948 to 2,775) and interceptions (1,354 to 1,246), but Leicester have won more aerial duels (402 to 385).
  • Crystal Palace are more proactive in terms of out-of-possession work than Leicester City. They have recovered the ball more (2,402 to 2,283) and won more loose balls (420 to 357).  
  • Leicester City use the ball differently to Crystal Palace – completing more passes (10,645 to 8,736). It is Palace, however, who have completed more long balls (661 to 564).
  • Crystal Palace have underperformed on their xG – scoring 22 from 27.67. Leicester City, on the other hand, have overperformed – scoring 38 from 25.57.

Arsenal v Leeds United (Saturday, 3pm)

  • Arsenal have scored the second-most goals in the Premier League this season (66). 
  • Arsenal boast a sharper attack than Leeds United – scoring more goals (66 to 35) as well as making more progressive runs (548 to 309) and more dribbles (450 to 345). 
  • Leeds United have made more successful defensive actions (3,140 to 2,462) and won more aerial duels (462 to 437), as well as making more interceptions (1,274 to 1,055) than Arsenal.
  • No side in the Premier League has kept more clean sheets than Arsenal (12).
  • Arsenal use the ball with a great deal more confidence than Leeds United – completing more passes (13,030 to 8,372), through passes (113 to 58), long balls (613 to 567) and crosses (151 to 99).

Brighton v Brentford (Saturday, 3pm)

  • Brighton have scored more goals (46 to 43), completed more dribbles (340 to 300), and made more progressive runs (408 to 219) than Brentford. 
  • Brentford have made more successful defensive actions (427 to 420) and interceptions (1,287 to 936) than Brighton.
  • Brentford have won the second-most aerial duels in the Premier League this season (480).
  • Brighton enjoy having the ball much more than Brentford – they have completed more passes (11,593 to 7,536) and more through passes (84 to 63).

Chelsea v Aston Villa (Saturday, 5.30pm)

  • Aston Villa boast a sharper attack than Chelsea – scoring more goals (35 to 29) and completing more dribbles (374 to 353). 
  • Chelsea have been more impressive out of possession – making more successful defensive actions (2,845 to 2,688) than Aston Villa.
  • Chelsea have been superior in the air than Aston Villa this season, winning more aerial duels (492 to 379).
  • Chelsea have completed more passes (12,522 to 9,261), more through passes (70 to 65), and more forward passes (3,543 to 2,649) than Aston Villa.

West Ham United v Southampton (Sunday, 2pm)

  • West Ham United have scored more goals (24 to 23) than Southampton this season.
  • Southampton have assisted more shots (203 to 178)than West Ham as well as completing more dribbles (318 to 296).
  • Southampton have made the third-most  interceptions (1,347) of any side in the Premier League. They also rank top of the division for aerial duels won (542).
  • Southampton use the ball differently to West Ham United. They have completed more passes (8,506 to 8,055), final third passes (939 to 869) and through balls (61 to 54). 
  • West Ham United have conceded fewer goals than Southampton (34 to 46) and earned more clean sheets (six to four).

Newcastle United v Manchester United (Sunday, 4.30pm)

  • Manchester United boast a sharper attack than Newcastle United, scoring more goals (41 to 39).
  • Manchester United have registered more shots than Newcastle United (345 to 326) as well as assisting more shots (225 to 194).
  • Newcastle United have made more interceptions (1,218 to 1,184) and won more aerial duels (451 to 395) than Manchester United.
  • Newcastle United have constructed a rather formidable defence. No Premier League side has conceded fewer goals than them (19) or earned more clean sheets (12).

Everton v Tottenham Hotspur (Monday, 8pm)

  • Tottenham Hotspur boast a more formidable attack than Everton – they have scored more than twice as many goals as their next opponents (52 to 22).
  • Tottenham Hotspur have registered more shots than Everton (365 to 254) as well as assisting more shots (227 to 144). They have also completed more take-ons (443 to 339).
  • Everton have made more interceptions than Tottenham Hotspur (1,337 to 1,151).
  • Both Everton and Tottenham Hotspur have conceded the same number of goals (40).
